POSITION TITLE: Accountant REPORTS TO: Chief Operating Officer COMPANY BACKGROUND: NEBF Investments is responsible for the management of The National Electrical Benefit Fund (NEBF) and The National Electrical Annuity Plan (NEAP) assets. This position is a shared resource between the two Plans and is located in Washington DC. NEBF is a Taft-Hartley, multiemployer defined benefit pension plan and is the second largest Taft-Hartley Pension Plan in the United States. NEAP is a multiemployer defined contribution money purchase plan that provides retirement and related benefits to employees in the electrical industry. QUALIFICATIONS: --- Bachelor's degree in Accounting and/or Finance required. --- One to three years of experience in a similar position; experience with accounting operations and preparing financial statement schedules. --- Demonstrates creative and critical thinking skills; and ability to multitask. --- Ability to work well with others, anticipate impacts of workload/issues to team deadlines and has a positive work attitude. --- Proficient computer skills, Office 365. --- Experience with Microsoft Business Central desirable but not required. SUMMARY OF JOB DESCRIPTION: The Accountant will report directly to the Chief Operating Officer and assist with the Plans' accounting and financial reporting operations. The Accountant position includes but is not limited to: - --- Accurate month end accounting close, including posting of all journal entries, recurring and non-recurring. --- Perform work under very little supervision requiring the need to exercise independent judgement and attention to details. --- Coordinate and assist with audits and prepare of required items in a timely manner. --- Assist with form 5500 and other tax filings (state and federal). --- Ensure compliance with GAAP and Cost Accounting Standards as well as some knowledge of FAR clauses. --- Assist with the annual budget forecasting of costs incurred by the investment office, which includes preparing budget to actual variance analysis and providing explanations for significant variances. --- Assist in development, analysis, and communication of monthly statements on a timely basis. --- Review the annual 1099-MISC and 1099-NEC IRS and vendor tax filings, which includes the review of completed forms and ensure notices are mailed out by the due date. --- Review monthly investment management fee accruals and invoice calculations and submit to the custodian bank for processing. --- Review, and when needed, perform accounts payable function, which includes, review of GL coding, and timeliness of payments. --- Ability to effectively manage multiple time-sensitive tasks. --- Assist with the development, implementation, monitoring, and adherence to company accounting policies and procedures. --- Ad-hoc projects as assigned by the senior leadership team.
