Job Description:
The Director, Philanthropy, is a key member of the Development
team responsible for managing a fast-growing portfolio of
approximately $1.5 million in major gifts. This position will work
with individual donors, family foundations, and philanthropic
advisors to build strong, meaningful relationships that
substantially grow the League's network of supporters.ESSENTIAL
RESPONSIBILITIES: - Manage a portfolio of 100 - 125 donors, drawn
from a mix of long-time donors and new prospects with the capacity
to donate $10,000 or more annually. - Create and implement
customized cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship plans for
each donor in the portfolio based on the donor's interests, giving
history, and analysis of giving potential. Conduct prospect
research to gather additional details on donors and prospects as
needed. - Personally initiate and cultivate one-to-one
relationships that enhance the donor's connection and lifetime
loyalty to LVW. Conduct donor visits, calls, and personalized
outreach to build ties, deepen engagement, and increase giving. -
Design highly customized donor engagement plans for assigned
donors. When appropriate, develop funding requests and play a lead
role in soliciting and closing major gifts. - Develop a range of
cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship materials for portfolio
donors, including but not limited to briefing memos, proposals, and
impact reports. - Integrate planned giving options into donor
relationship development activities. - Collaborate with the
Communications team to coordinate 5 - 6 virtual and in-person donor
cultivation and stewardship events annually. - Meaningfully
leverage and engage senior leadership and Board Members in the
cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of portfolio donors. -
Provide personalized stewardship for major gifts received,
reporting back to donors on impact and outcomes achieved. -
Maintain accurate and timely records of donor interactions in the
organization's Salesforce CRM. - Create monthly reports reflecting
portfolio activity, performance, and projections. - Work with the
Senior Director, Direct Mail and Digital and the National
Development Director to enhance and expand the organization's
planned giving program, with an eye towards increasing planned
gifts from major donors. - In partnership with the National
Development Director and an external consulting firm, develop and
implement a plan to significantly expand the organization's major
gifts program over the next three to five years. - Travel up to
20%, with the CEO of the League and solo travel to donors in spirit
of building relationships and manage donations and gifts. - Assist
and collaborate with other League staff on organization-wide
rallies, lobby days, and other events as
needed.EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS: - At least five years of
successful major gift fundraising experience is required, with
preference for additional experience with legacy giving - CFRE

time.RequirementsKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: -
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and respond to donors
in a timely manner. - Mastery of the principles of major donor
moves management - Successful track record closing five- to
six-figure gifts and moving donors into higher giving brackets -
Ability to manage up and down, and build relationships and
consensus across internal teams - Record of successfully engaging
leadership and Board members in the fundraising process. - Strong
written and verbal communication skills across a wide range of
platforms and audiences - Drive and motivation, and exceptional
strategic thinking skills - Superior relationship-building and
customer service skills - Ability to handle sensitive information
with tact and discretion - Fluency with technology, including
proficiency in Word and Excel, and CRM software, comfort with data
and databases; familiarity with Salesforce is a plus - Experience
using wealth screening software is preferred; familiarity with
Wealth Engine is a plus - The ability to travel occasionally to
meet with donors is required* Candidates must reside in the
following states for this position: DC, New York, or San
Francisco.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:The person in this position needs
to occasionally move about inside the office to access file
cabinets, office machinery. The person must also be available to
travel to/for purposes of work and walk longer distances to offices
and events. Constantly operates a computer and other office
productivity equipment.
