Job Description:

I-MC2 This position is for a Senior Specialist Defense Research Analyst to provide on-site support to a government customer in the analytical Support for Force Planning (ASFP) process primarily in the areas of Military Forces and Wargaming. The candidate will be involved in all aspects of the analytical process, and will support DoD Studies and Analysis by providing general data development and analysis with emphasis on Wargaming. Responsibilities include: Provide support for the development, assessment and testing of wargaming tools, databases and process to enhance DoD-level wargaming studies and analyses. Participate in the customer relationship process and work with the wargaming community in the development of the OSD-CAPE wargaming repository. Obtain, develop, and interpret wargaming data by maintaining wargaming repository database. Apply data analysis techniques to the data and have the ability to present results to DoD leadership such as the monthly wargaming digest. Use Microsoft Excel for analysis, chart depiction, and the creation of pivot tables. Be expected to foster/build/form effective relationships while coordinating a wide range of wargaming repository issues with senior actions officers from the Joint Staff, OSD-CAPE, and the Services.Secondary duties entail conducting research on a wide variety of possible data sources to provide DoD force structure and strategic planning customers with information about forces and capabilities. This work shall be accomplished by managing and participating in Department-level studies, wargames and analysis and by developing and managing data of U.S. and Non U.S. equipment, unit, force structure, capability and deployment data (including planning, programming and acquisition data). The work includes developing or assisting the development of data for order of battle, operations, Infrastructure, logistics, communications, intelligence, and concept of operations (CONOPS). This position will require travel to the Pentagon and other offices in the National Capital Region. Required Skills, Experience, and Education: Competitive candidates will have strong credentials in the following areas: One to three years of experience with supporting senior OSD, Joint Staff, or Military Service customers. Experience with data development and analysis of data with an emphasis of on Wargaming. Familiarity with wargames and resulting products generated from wargames. Strong work ethic and ability to work independently and be a team player. Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills - ability to prepare written documentation (i.e., word documents/reports and PowerPoint slides) for senior leadership. Proven expertise supporting customers and senior leadership. Ability to use a combination of analytic judgment and proven analytic practices to solve complex information requirement problems. Ability to makes timely / logical recommendations or decisions in a variety of complex situations affecting work team. Ability to leverage full capabilities of the Microsoft Office suite of software: high level of expertise with Excel and PowerPoint; working knowledge of Access; and the ability to develop charts, pivot tables, and querying large databases. Experience handling classified materials. Bachelor's Degree in International Affairs, Strategic Studies, Defense Studies, History, Operations Research, or related social science degree. Required Clearance: DoD Secret Desired Skills: Masters Degree DoD Top Secret with SCI eligibility. Experience in the areas of theater/campaign-level analysis, or forces combat modeling & simulation, operations research or equivalent experience. Intelligence experience as a military member, Government civilian, or contractor is a plus. Experience with operations planning at the combatant command level (or service component) and/or equivalent experience on the Joint Staff, OSD staff, or at a senior service school or a war college.
